BLS Skill Training Programme for B.Sc. Nursing First-Year Students
A Basic Life Support (BLS) Skill Training Programme was conducted for 60 first-year B.Sc. Nursing students on 11th and 12th December 2024 by Mrs. Thilagavathi and Mrs. Asha, in coordination with the TN Apex Skill Development Center.
The programme commenced with a pre-test assessment to evaluate the students’ baseline knowledge, followed by an interactive theory session and hands-on skill demonstrations. The training covered essential topics including:
- High-Quality Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Application and use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
- Management of choking in adults and children
- Awareness and prevention of harmful drug use
Following the demonstrations, each student underwent individual skill assessment to ensure competency in performing the learned procedures. A post-test evaluation was conducted to measure knowledge gained during the training, and participant feedback was collected at the conclusion of the programme.
The students actively participated throughout the sessions, showing great enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. The training significantly enhanced their knowledge, practical skills, and confidence in providing basic life support during emergency situations.
